Bistrot La Minette is the realization of Chef Peter Woolsey's dream that began a decade ago during his culinary studies in France: to create a restaurant that would share his love of the authentic bistrot experience with his fellow Philadelphians.

April 2014 at Bistrot La Minette

Here is what’s happening this April at the Bistrot. 

SPARKLING WINE DINNER APRIL 16th and 17th
In the late 17th Century the French came up with the Methode Champenoise, a second fermentation in the bottle that carbonated the wine with fantastic results. This method is not used just in Champagne but in many of the other sparkling wines that France produces. We will be celebrating this wine with a tasting of the different styles, paired with food. The menu and wine tasting will be $70. Take a look at the decadent menu:

HAPPY HOUR NOW MONDAYS THROUGH FRIDAYS
We are now offering a happy hour from Monday through Friday, 5:30pm to 7:00pm. There will be $2 beers, $3 wines and $4 kirs as well as half priced appetizers. We are only offering this deal at the bar and the front porch. In my opinion, the perfect way to end the work day, is with a cold glass of white wine and a plate of butter basted scallops drizzled with champagne sauce and complemented with braised leeks and trout roe.

COME AND TRY OUR NEW SPRING MENU ITEMS
It has been a long, long winter. Every year winter ends the moment my produce vendor calls me up to tell me that ramps are available (he called just shy of two weeks ago). Ramps are only the very beginning of the explosion of spring vegetables. Reacting to the rapid change in season, Kenny has already added morels, peas and ramps to a few new spring menu items. He has more dishes to debut in the coming weeks, but already he has added a French gnocchi with peas and morels, beef rib carbonade (braised in beer) with spring onions and cobia, a dense and buttery white fish, served with saffron rice pilaf and braised fennel. I am very impressed with the new menu items and I am excited to see the rest of the changes that Kenny has planned in the next few weeks.

DINING OUT FOR LIFE THURSDAY APRIL 24
Well over 150 restaurants across the Delaware Valley will donate 33% of the night's proceeds to Action Aids to benefit men, women and children with HIV/AIDS. The best part is that Bistrot La Minette is one of the participating restaurants! Come and sacrifice an evening of your time for a good cause and order some foie gras or snails, knowing that you are helping your fellow man.

CHRISTINA DELGADO AND MOMO TREES
Christina has been with Bistrot La Minette for almost five years now. Without us advertising for a position, she sent a letter looking for work. Many applications and emails for jobs cross my desk, but Christina’s was so well written that I felt compelled to meet her. I hired her shortly after that and she has been a great employee ever since. Besides being a great writer and server she also creates beautiful handmade jewelry, bags, and wallets. In early March Kenny Bush and I traveled to France. Due to some technical difficulties, which really are not that technical at all (I ran out of time while there and I have been playing catch up ever since), I have not finished all of the blog, although you can read some of my first entries here.
